In mastering music, you master yourself — both evolving in harmony
In learning music, we find the harmony between who we are and who we can become.

Shaping Sound: The Craft of Hammered Dulcimer Building
Being a hammered dulcimer builder means shaping wood and string into something alive. It’s a craft of precision and passion—choosing the right woods, carving the frame, and tuning each string until it sings.
Every piece of wood carries a story. My job is to listen—to sense which pieces will resonate, not just in sound, but in feeling. Building a dulcimer is not just about measurements and angles; it’s about creating an instrument that will inspire music for years to come.
There are challenges: wood moves with the seasons, strings stretch and settle. But with patience, the dulcimer finds its voice—a bright, shimmering cascade of notes. That first sound, when the instrument comes alive, makes every careful step worth it.
To build hammered dulcimers is to keep a timeless tradition breathing. It’s slow work in a fast world, but it reminds me daily that beauty can still be made by hand—and that music, at its best, begins with a dream shaped into wood.
